Hemcore is the UK's largest grower & processor of hemp British farmers are growing on contract to Hemcore around 8000 acres (2009) of Industrial Hemp, a plant from the Cannabis family with a virtually zero drug content.
Hemp, once grown widely across the UK to produce fiber for the sails & rigging of the sailing fleet has been revived by Hemcore & is now rapidly becoming a vital raw material for the industries of today, such as automobile manufacturers, construction & (believe it or not) coal burning electrical companies.Hemcore commenced trading in 1993 & have a factory based in Essex, England, that processes the whole hemp plant & separates the stem into fiber & core. This core (or pith) produces horse bedding & the fiber is sold into Europe's paper, automotive, insulation & construction industries.
